I'm not talking here and there occasionally. To live here, you have to get used to being around people nearly all the time that do not speak English. Jokes aside, if Texas ever did decided to secede from the US, it would probably have a pretty good chance at success given all the resources we have within our borders. I can say this, in my entire adult life I've never been without a job for more than two weeks. Largely due to how diversified we are, the sheer amount of industry we have, and the size of our population. Austin has also become a bit of a tech mecca over the last 10-15 years, so if you're in this field it's a good spot. It's also one of the most liberal environments in Texas, which is otherwise filled up with the 'Murica crowd. I've visited there about half a dozen times over the years, and each time I couldn't get out of there fast enough.Īustin is nice. Even worse heat and humidity, and the traffic jams rival anything you'd see in Los Angeles. You couldn't pay me enough money to live in Houston. My wife an I are fortunate to live in one of those rare neighborhoods that has some mature trees and plenty of shade, and has stayed nice even though it is 30+ years old. We don't have fireflies, we have mosquitoes. Dallas and Fort Worth both have public transportation. Hardly ever any snow, and Spring and Autumn last about 3 weeks each. It's typical to go for periods of 3 weeks to a month each summer without any rain at all. Summers are unbearably hot and humid, and you can expect 90-110 temps from May through October. Arlington has close to 400,000 residents, and there are over 4 million people living in the Dallas/Arlington/Fort Worth area. I live right in the middle of DFW, in Arlington.
